Vehicle fire causes long delays on M66 as tailbacks stretch from Haslingden to Bury

A vehicle fire has caused long delays on the M66 this evening, September 16, with traffic stretching back to Bury.The issue was first reported at around 6.30pm, and emergency services have closed one lane to deal with the incident, which took place on A56 Northbound between the M66 Ramsbottom Junction and the Burnley turn-off. Motorists have experienced delays as long as 40 minutes against expected travel conditions.Delays caused by the incident continued for several hours, with the one lane remaining shut currently, 9pm.National Highways have suggested that normal traffic conditions will not return until 10pm.An Inrix spokesperson said: “Queueing traffic and one lane closed due to vehicle fire on A56 Northbound between M66 (Ramsbottom Junction, Edenfield) and the Burnley turn-off (Rawtenstall).”
